Netherlands
Where every journey becomes a story
Discover the Netherlands
I visited the Netherlands twice to see my friend and explore. Both trips felt warm, relaxed, and full of beautiful little moments — from canal views and rooftop swings to beachside cocktails and traditional home-cooked food. Amsterdam, The Hague, and the surrounding small towns showed me a softer, more personal side of the country.
Stories From the Netherlands
First Trip — Amsterdam Moments
On my first visit, I went to Amsterdam’s Dam Square and soaked in the energy of the city — people, trams, history, and the soft Dutch light over the old buildings. I had cocktails at Café Zwart, enjoying the atmosphere before heading home for the night.
A’DAM Lookout — Swinging Above Amsterdam
The next day, I went to the A’DAM Lookout and swung from the top of the building with the most beautiful view of Amsterdam beneath me. It was a mix of thrill and calm — hanging over the city, watching the canals, rooftops, and skyline from above. I had some wine there alone, just taking it all in, before going to meet my friend.
Canal Cruise & Prosecco Evenings
We then went on a canal cruise, sipping prosecco while slowly drifting along Amsterdam’s waterways. The bridges, narrow houses, and reflections on the water made the city feel even more magical. It was simple and lovely.
Home-Cooked Food & Red Light District Walks
After the cruise, we went back to her house where she cooked our traditional home dish — a comforting, grounding moment in the middle of a busy city trip. Later, we headed to the Red Light District, where we explored some museums and soaked in the unique atmosphere. We met new friends along the way and ended the night with easy conversation and laughter.
Second Trip — The Hague & Coastal Vibes
On my second visit, I went to The Hague and rode the ferris wheel by the beach. The views of the sea and shoreline from above were beautiful. Afterward, I had a local dish by the beach while sipping cocktails, listening to the waves and enjoying the fresh air.
Zaandam, Volendam, Marken & Zaanse Schans
The next day, I explored more of the Netherlands beyond Amsterdam. I went to Zaandam, Volendam, Marken, and Zaanse Schans — each place with its own character. Traditional houses, windmills, waterfront views, and small-town charm made the day feel peaceful and picturesque.
Saying Goodbye in Purmerend
On my final day, I went to visit my friend in Purmerend to say goodbye. It was a simple, gentle end to the trip — spending time together before heading off, grateful for the memories, the hospitality, and the feeling of having a home away from home in the Netherlands.
